St Thomas Youth Group and Christian Formation

E.Y.C- Youth Groups ages 6-16

Mission Statement: "To provide a fun and exciting place to disciple the youth of this parish and provide the necessary elements for Christian growth through worship, encouragement, fellowship, evangelism and service to the people of this parish and the community.",

St. Thomas supports two youth groups also known as E.Y.C. (Episcopal Youth Club) The Young Folk E.Y.C. meets monthly and is geared for ages 6-9 or grades 1-grades 4. E.Y.C. meets most weeks in an after school setting for grades 5 - high school.

St. Thomas has an active youth group that is locally and globally proactive in causes of poverty, hunger, natural disasters, and other social issues. The St. Thomas Youth Ministry has been instrumental in developing a community based youth council within the local public housing community to help address and solve community based issues. Through a strengths-based approach the public housing youth and St. Thomas Youth Ministry has created a community garden, built colorful trash receptacles, planned and executed community landscaping projects and as well as other community based events for their neighborhoods.

Globally, the youth have held fundraisers for assisting a sister Louisiana parish in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. They have also actively raised over $15,000.00 for World Vision's world hunger campaign which when matched with Federal grants adds up to more than $90,000.
